Pilates Reformer

The Reformer is a piece of equipment designed by Joseph Pilates. He created it to treat muscular and skeletal injuries during his work with immobilized patients during World War I. The Reformer has since moved into main stream exercise and is used to strengthen muscles and improve cardiovascular function. Focusing on “core stability,” it also works the legs and arms and stretches muscles in a controlled style similar to Yoga.

The Reformer enables you to perform resistance exercises while standing, sitting, kneeling or lying on a sliding platform that is connected to a set of tension springs. The machine offers a versatile impact-free workout through more than 100 exercises.

  • Swan dive - Take a deep breath and dive... strengthening the whole back!
  • Side-ways split - develop strength and fluidity in your lower back and adductors.
  • The side plank facilitates a side-body opening stretch to release tension, build strength and refine balance.
  • Plank on the reformer requires intense core work and yet there’s a sense of floating.
  • Leg lifts on the reformer allow for greater control and deep muscle work.

Juliana Santos-Kraus
Juliana holds a master’s degree in physical education. She is a Power Pilates certified instructor for Pilates on Mat and also a Reformer certified instructor.

Sara Scipioni
With more than 14 years of dance experience, Sara was drawn to Pilates following the birth of her daughter. She immediately fell in love with the philosophy and movement of classical Pilates. In the summer of 2014, she became certified in beginner and intermediate Mat through Power Pilates. Sara trained with Juliana on the reformer, and is offering private sessions through Juliana Pilates.

I offer private sessions on the reformer for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students. I work with people with physical limitations and can aid in re-habilitation.

I am also available to teach private Yoga lessons at home and for groups in the workplace.
